Launching 2026 · A book by Dr. Jeff Bullock, PharmD

You did not fail to remember it. You never built it to last.

Far Transfer is a six-domain operating system for turning what you read into skill you can actually use when the room goes quiet and someone asks you a hard question.

The book launches in 2026. The companion app Honed is live now.

The problem

You passed the exam, finished the book, watched the whole course. And you still cannot do the thing.

There is a name for what happened. It is the Dean's List Lie: the belief that scoring well, reading through, or nodding along means you acquired the ability. It did not.

Underneath it sits the Fluency Illusion. Re-reading and highlighting feel like progress because the material gets familiar. Familiarity is not retrieval, and it is not skill. The moment the pressure is real and the notes are gone, the gap shows.

Most professional learning is passive consumption dressed up as productivity. It builds a feeling, not an architecture.

What Far Transfer does differently

It gives you the machine that learns every subject.

Spaced repetition, retrieval practice, and deep work are real. They usually get taught as separate tricks. Far Transfer wires them into one system, six domains connected like a supply chain. If you have read the other books and still feel like something is missing, this is the integration layer.

01

Attention

Protect the signal. Nothing encodes if the gate is leaking.

02

Knowledge

Move information from working memory into durable storage.

03

Skill

Turn what you know into something your hands and mouth can do.

04

Reasoning

Use the knowledge to decide under real uncertainty.

05

Metacognition

See your own state clearly enough to correct it in real time.

06

Execution

Deliver the skill when it counts, not just in the quiet.

If you are struggling, it is usually because one of these six is broken. The diagnostic below finds out which one.

Which of your six domains is the weak link?

Six statements. Rate how true each one feels right now. At the end you get the domain that is holding you back, and the first protocol you can run tonight with an index card.

1. I sit down to learn and my focus scatters within a few minutes.
Not meExactly me
2. I read something, feel like I get it, then cannot recall it a week later.
Not meExactly me
3. I understand the concept but freeze when I have to actually do it.
Not meExactly me
4. I know the facts but struggle to apply them to a new problem.
Not meExactly me
5. I cannot tell when I truly know something versus just recognize it.
Not meExactly me
6. I perform fine in practice, then fall apart when it actually counts.
Not meExactly me

The method

Start analog. Earn the right to automate.

The book starts you with index cards, a red pen, and a cheap timer. That is on purpose. Friction is biologically mandated for deep encoding. Writing by hand coordinates dozens of small muscles and lays down a pathway typing never builds. Physically shuffling cards triggers prediction error, the neurochemical signature of learning. When you click "shuffle" in an app, your brain knows it is an algorithm and the signal never fires.

The analog phase is a foundation you outgrow. Once you have felt the burn of retrieval and understand why the spacing works, you earn the right to automate. That is what the companion app Honed does: it runs the math so you scale the system without losing the depth.

The architecture is the magic. The tool, analog or digital, is just the vehicle.

What is inside

Fourteen protocols, one architecture, zero busywork.

Grounded in learning science, cognitive science, and two decades of coaching. In the tradition of Make It Stick, Ultralearning, Atomic Habits, and Deep Work, built as the operating system that connects them.

Dr. Jeff Bullock, PharmD

Jeff spent six years earning a PharmD at Xavier University of Louisiana and eighteen years at CVS, rising from clerk to district leader. Then he did the thing the book is about: he taught himself languages, piano, and AI consulting from scratch, and reverse-engineered why some of it stuck and most of it did not.

Far Transfer is the operating system that came out of that. It is the same architecture he now uses to coach executives and to build AI companies. He wrote it because he was tired of watching smart, busy people work hard at learning and retain almost none of it.

Questions

Before it launches.

When does the book come out?

Far Transfer launches in 2026. Take the diagnostic or drop your email and you will be first to know the exact day, plus you get the first protocol before then.

Is this just another learning-hacks book?

No. Most books hand you one tactic, spaced repetition or deep work or note-taking, and leave you to guess how they fit. Far Transfer is the integration layer. It connects six domains into one system so the tactics reinforce each other instead of competing for your time.

Why start with index cards in the age of AI?

Because friction is what makes encoding stick. Handwriting and physical shuffling trigger the biological signals of learning that a frictionless app suppresses. You start analog to build the depth, then you earn the right to automate it with the Honed app. It is engineering, not nostalgia.

Can I start now, before the book is out?

Yes. The companion app Honed is already live at gethoned.app, and the diagnostic gives you your weakest domain and a first protocol today. The book brings the full six-domain system and all fourteen protocols.
